Position Description:
One (1) Permanent- Exempt, Part Time, School - Term Only (30 Hours per week, 200 Days/year) position. School-Term Only employees are hired for a specific work calendar and may not have an assignment during the school academic breaks. Permanent-Exempt. Exempt employees are considered "at will" and serve at the discretion of the appointing officer.
This position is grant-funded and is funded on a yearly basis. Hours are subject to change after appointment dependent upon grant status.
Under the general supervision of the DSPS Department Chair and Dean of Student Success, the 3598 School Aide III provides instructional support in courses with the assigned instructor(s). Additionally, the 3598 School Aide III aides in the delivery of assigned course content and tutoring, with the goal of improving student success in academics. Additional tasks may include assisting with clerical tasks, proctoring, scheduling, scribing or reading tests (while ensuring test integrity and security) for students with accommodations, providing in-person, remote, and online academic or clerical support for students.
Job Duties:
Please note the duties specified below are representative of the range of duties assigned to the 3598 School Aide 3 job class code and not intended to be an inclusive list.
1. Adapts curriculum and activities identified as appropriate for student learning needs for the purpose of addressing specific learning requirements that maximize academic performance of students.2. Assists with implementation of a variety of instructional activities (e.g. tutoring, homework, campus resources, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring all necessary materials and information are available for use in supporting students in their program.3. Attends meetings and in-service presentations (e.g. workshops, departmental and program meetings, etc.) for the purpose of acquiring and conveying information relative to job functions.4. Maintains instructional areas (e.g. classroom equipment, work areas, labs, instructional materials, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring the availability of required materials within a positive learning environment.5. Maintains various records and documentation (e.g. student progress, referrals, assessments, services provided, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring documentation is consistent with established policies and providing accurate documentation of student progress.6. Monitors student performance for the purpose of meeting the needs of the students and making necessary adjustments in lesson plans and assignments.
7. Orders require materials and equipment required for instructional activities for the purpose of ensuring their availability as needed.8. Provides support for the implementation of instructional programs and lesson plan, under supervision of assigned faculty member and course instructor for the purpose of ensuring student learning outcomes are achieved.9. Responds to a wide variety of inquiries from internal and external parties (e.g., faculty and instructional staff, students, other departments, etc.) for the purpose of providing information, facilitating communication among parties and/or providing direction.10. Performs other related duties as assigned for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit.
Minimum Qualifications:
Successful completion of two years of college (60 semester units) AND paid experience working with young people or college students.
Note: College Work Study and Student Lab Aide experience with the District will be considered/ applied as qualifying experience per an agreement made between the District and SEIU. This agreement will allow District students to take advantage of employment opportunities.
Desirable Qualifications:
1. Evidence of Mastery of basic to college-level Math, up to and including algebra, trigonometry, and calculus.
2. Evidence of Mastery of college-level English.
3. Previous tutoring experience.
4. Ability to communicate clearly, interact effectively and sensitively with students and staff from diverse backgrounds and with various disabilities.
5. Demonstrated computer skills to use various technology tools and computer software programs.
6. Strong ability to multi-task and work well with frequent interruptions.
7. Experience working with persons with disabilities.
8. Experience with SARS, Banner, Argos, and/or Microsoft Office Suite.
9. Ability to speak Spanish, Chinese, and/or use American Sign Language.
Benefits:
1. New employees hired on or after October 1, 2013 will contribute 2% of salary to the San Francisco Retiree Health Care Trust Fund (RHCTF).2. Additional Days Off with Pay. As stipulated in the appropriate bargaining agreements and board resolutions, Classified employees working full year (260 days/year) work schedules are granted, as paid days off, the days between Christmas and New Year’s Day, as well as an additional five (5) paid days off during spring break. Eligible school-term-only (STO) employees who are not scheduled to work the designated days between Christmas and New Year’s Day shall be granted three (3) paid days off to be scheduled by mutual agreements between the employee and supervisor. Eligible school-term-only (STO) employees who are not scheduled to work the days designated as Spring Break will not be paid for these days off.
