The State of Connecticut, Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services (DMHAS) is currently seeking a qualified and experienced individual for the position of Advanced Clinical Social Worker to join our team.

The Role:

The Advanced Clinical Social Worker (ACSW) Clinician Independently provides highly skilled direct clinical social work evaluations and treatment with adult individuals in crisis with complex behavioral and social problems through comprehensive clinical assessments.

 

Job duties include but are not limited to:

  • Independently provide highly skilled direct clinical social work evaluations and treatment adult individuals in crisis with complex behavioral and social problems through comprehensive clinical assessments.
  • Partner with law enforcement in providing on-scene expertise and support during mental health crisis response, guiding officers in de-escalation, ensuring individuals are connected to treatment instead of jail, and strengthening community trust through collaborative care consultation, and coordination with law enforcement.
  • Provide on-going training and consultation to Law enforcement officers in the field about mental illness, trauma, and substance use along with providing continuing education and refreshers to keep officers updated on best practices.
  • Assist the Police Department in navigating systems by linking officers to community mental health providers, shelters, and social services along with diversionary programs.
  • providing follow-up care and coordinating post-crisis support to reduce repeat encounters with police.
  • Partner with the Bridgeport Police Department in providing and community trust building activities such as family engagement; reducing stigma and engaging collaborative problem-solving by fostering partnerships between police, hospitals, and advocacy groups to improve outcomes.
  • Conduct crisis assessments and interventions, including risk management.
  • Maintain documentation on everyone served.
  • Enhance communication across the local behavioral health system of care, including forensics, law enforcement, and criminal justice systems.
  • Provide emergency certification to transport clients for assessment and intervention at emergency rooms.
  • Educate local providers and law enforcement agencies on the dynamics of behavioral health problems, homelessness, and the high-risk, high-needs clients served, as well as the behavioral health network/system.
  • Provide direct clinical care in a wide variety of community settings, including face-to-face assessments in the community and criminal justice settings.

Southwest Connecticut Mental Health System (SWCMHS) is responsible for the oversight and management of contracts with private not-for-profit agencies and residential providers providing mental health services in the southwest region of the state.  With locations in Bridgeport and Stamford, SWCMHS provides inpatient, outpatient and assertive community treatment (ACT) services and community support services for adults with severe behavioral health disabilities; mental health services for people who are deaf or hearing impaired and a mobile crisis intervention team. SWCMHS also provides outreach to people who are homeless and mentally ill. Special agency programs include Shelter Plus Care, a housing program for people who are homeless and who have a history of substance abuse or mental illness or who have AIDS.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - GENERAL EXPERIENCE

One (1) year of experience as a licensed clinical social worker.
