Multimedia Designer Intern (Hybrid)

Department: Marketing Communications

The Nuclear Energy Institute (NEI) is seeking a creative and motivated Multimedia Designer Intern to join our Marketing Communications team. This hybrid internship offers hands-on experience creating visual content for both digital and print platforms, while contributing to communications that support clean energy, innovation, and nuclear technology.

As an intern, you’ll work alongside experienced designers and communications professionals, as well as colleagues across marketing and conferences teams. This role is ideal for students or early-career designers who want to apply their creative skills to meaningful, real-world projects and gain exposure to a mission-driven organization.

You’ll learn how visual storytelling supports advocacy, education, and engagement—while building a professional portfolio and developing practical design skills in a collaborative, supportive environment.

What You’ll Do

As a Multimedia Designer Intern, you’ll help bring NEI’s mission and messages to life by creating visual content used across the organization. Responsibilities include:

  • Designing digital assets for webpages, blog posts, social media, email campaigns, and presentations
  • Creating print materials such as fact sheets, signage, reports, and event collateral
  • Assisting with short-form videos, animations, and motion graphics
  • Supporting video editing and basic animation for marketing and communications initiatives
  • Gaining hands-on experience with print production, including layout design, file preparation, proofing, and print-ready deliverables
  • Collaborating with designers, writers, marketers, and conference professionals during both remote and in-person workdays
  • Participating in brainstorming sessions, creative reviews, and team meetings
  • Applying brand standards consistently across all materials
  • Managing multiple projects while meeting deadlines and maintaining high-quality work

What We’re Looking For

Required:

  • Currently pursuing a degree in graphic design, multimedia design, visual communications, digital media, or a related field
  • Experience using Adobe Creative Cloud (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign)
  • Strong interest in visual storytelling, design fundamentals, and learning new skills
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a hybrid work environment
  • Attention to detail and willingness to receive feedback
  • Portfolio or samples of design work (class projects encouraged)

Preferred:

  • Interest or experience in print design and production
  • Familiarity with Premiere Pro, After Effects, or motion graphics
  • Curiosity about digital accessibility and professional file preparation
  • Experience with tools such as Canva or Figma

What You’ll Gain

  • Hands-on experience creating real-world digital and print materials used in public-facing communications
  • Mentorship and guidance from seasoned, in-house designers
  • Insight into how design supports policy, education, and advocacy
  • Portfolio-ready work tied to high-visibility campaigns, events, and publications
  • Experience working in a professional, mission-driven hybrid environment
