General Manager: Grounds/Maintenance

Position Summary:

La Luz is seeking a motivated and resourceful General Manager to lead the management and maintenance of our unique campus. Responsibilities include coordinating with our Board of Directors to determine priorities, supervising our Groundskeeper, and taking a hands-on approach to repairs. The General Manager takes pride in making sure our grounds remain as vibrant and as healthy as can be. If you have experience in landscaping or grounds maintenance, we want to meet you. If you have arborist or golf greens know-how, that’s a bonus. We’re especially interested in candidates who are attracted to our historical significance.

Key Responsibilities:

To keep the campus looking its best and La Luz functioning efficiently, you will: 

  • Care for all things green, including turf, trees, and plantings
  • Maintain hardscape areas, including gravel, sidewalks, and firebreaks along paths and around buildings
  • Keep the irrigation system running smoothly and attend to hiccups (leaks, clogged valves, etc.) when they occur
  • Direct, manage and mentor the Groundskeeper to deliver quality work
  • Oversee maintaining the swimming pool, pumphouse, bathhouse and pool grounds
  • Work closely with the Board of Directors and Committees to coordinate projects and facilitate compliance matters between Committees and residents
  • Represent our community professionally when coordinating with contractors, external service providers, utilities and agencies
  • Answer resident inquiries and triage issues, via email and in-person
  • Although secondary to grounds, you will also perform basic administration, such as developing work plans and facilitating the flow of information both within La Luz and externally

 

Qualifications:

Education and Experience:

  • High School Diploma required
  • Prefer Bachelor’s degree, trades certification or other post-High School education 
  • Minimum of 3 years experience in grounds/landscape/property management or similar role, including staff supervision 
  • Experience with irrigation systems/management
  • Experience with procedures used in grounds maintenance, as well as ability to operate grounds equipment, tools and machinery 

 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Strong written and verbal English communication skills
  • Basic conversational Spanish would be ideal 
  • Basic technologies; Microsoft OS, Word, Excel, etc.
  • Organizational skills, accountability and resourcefulness as a problem solver

 

Physical demands:

  • Work most of the day outdoors in all seasons, mostly on 8AM-4PM schedule
  • Lift 50 lbs.
  • Walk our large campus 
  • Operate a work utility vehicle (Gator)
  • Work on a ladder
  • Climb, bend, reach, sit

 

Other requirements:

  • Valid Driver’s license and use of a suitable vehicle
  • Legally authorized to work in the US

 

Compensation: $50, 000 - $60,000, annually. Salary is commensurate with experience. Benefits including health insurance, paid time off and professional development opportunities.
