Internship Overview: Join us for an immersive summer internship at New York Jazz Academy®, where you will play a crucial role in the day-to-day operations of the school. As a Music Intern, you will serve as a liaison between students, families, faculty, and staff, ensuring smooth communication and coordination. Your responsibilities will extend to on-site music performance and rehearsal assistance, both as an active musician and as a teaching assistant. Preferred applicants will demonstrate fluency in jazz language, encompassing early jazz, bebop, and post-bop, coupled with an innate ability to interact effectively with others. Working closely with NYJA founder Javier Arau and esteemed faculty, you will gain valuable insights into managing and overseeing operations at NYC's most popular jazz music school. This internship offers a unique opportunity to learn, grow, and contribute to the vibrant jazz community while experiencing the magic of a summer in the jazz capital of the world.
Qualifications:
- Current enrollment at Lawrence University, preferably a music major.
- Passion for and fluency in jazz language (early jazz, bebop, post-bop).
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a dynamic and creative environment.
- Enthusiasm for assisting in music performances and rehearsals.
- Eagerness to learn about the management and general operations of a music school.

Compensation:
This internship is part of the Lawrence-Funded internship program. The student selected for this internship will receive a $6k stipend to help cover housing and transportation costs and living expenses.
