Intern Construction Engineer- Northwestern Energy

Intern Construction Engineer

Work Location: 1 position will be filled in Harrisburg, Mitchell or Yankton, SD.

1 position will be filled in Grand Island, Kearney or North Platte, NE

Pay range: $20.00 - $21.00/hour (first year interns $20.00/hour, returning interns $21.00/hour)

Employment Status: Temporary (May - August full-time, 40 hours per week)

About this position:

Intern will work closely with engineers on designing electric and natural gas facilities. This includes estimating costs, engineering support, and project management. There will also be opportunities to visit projects in the field, and to learn about the operation of NorthWestern Energy's electric and natural gas systems.

About this job:

  • Support engineers in design of electric and natural gas facilities for new construction, relocates, and capacity projects
  • Work with new service requests, assist in providing services, checking site locations ahead of crew for efficiencies
  • Assist customers with NWE's New Construction process
  • Work with customers on growth orders and construction estimates
  • Research Company records on vintage gas pipe to determine replacement plans
  • Work on infrastructure mapping/GIS information to improve data
  • Participate in organizational work meetings
  • Driving to project sites, meetings, or other work-related locations may be required.
  • Lifting of materials up to 35 pounds

  • Demonstrate and maintain a good safety record
  • Valid drivers license and satisfactory driving record
  • Must possess strong interpersonal and written communication skills
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office products, particularly Outlook, Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
  • Prefer Engineering Student (Electrical/Mechanical/Civil/Construction)
  • Student must have completed Sophomore level or higher by start date
  • Must be in good academic standing
  • Must Provide GPA in Resume upon application
  • Get Into Energy - Energy Industry Fundamental 2.0 certification is a plus (click here to certify at no cost)
