Position Title: Summer Marketing & Development Intern at Hearthstone Historic House Museum
Reports To: Executive Director
Location: Hybrid (On-site + Remote)
Hours: 40 hours/week, Summer 2026 (flexible)
Compensation: Stipend or academic credit (as applicable)

Position Summary

The Summer Marketing & Development Intern will support the organization’s communications and fundraising activities, with a strong focus on engaging volunteers, donors, and members. This role will assist in day-to-day digital communications, support the launch of an endowment campaign, and help enhance our online fundraising presence using Zeffy. The intern will also help update, organize, and migrate data from our current platform into Zeffy’s donor and contact management system.

This position is ideal for a college student seeking hands-on experience in nonprofit marketing, communications, and development.

Key Responsibilities

Communications & Marketing

  • Assist in promoting social media content (Facebook, Instagram, TikTok).
  • Assist in developing digital newsletters, email campaigns, and website content.
  • Create graphics and simple designs to support marketing and fundraising efforts.
  • Support consistent communication with volunteers, donors, and members throughout the summer.

Fundraising & Development

  • Assist with planning and executing components of the CY2026 fundraising strategy, including donor outreach and stewardship.
  • Support early-stage work on an endowment campaign, such as preparing campaign materials and helping coordinate communications.
  • Contribute to donor research and recordkeeping.

Database & Technology Support

  • Transfer and clean volunteer, donor, and member lists from the existing platform into Zeffy.
  • Set up Zeffy forms, campaigns, tracking links, and automated communications as needed.
  • Ensure accurate tagging, segmentation, and organization of supporter data.

Qualifications

Required

  • Current college student pursuing a degree in marketing, communications, nonprofit management, business, design, or a related field.
  • Knowledge of social media platforms and content creation strategies.
  • Familiarity with Zeffy fundraising tools (or demonstrated ability to learn quickly).
  • Proficiency in organizing and migrating data between software platforms.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Creative with basic graphic design experience (Canva, Adobe Express, or similar).
  • Highly organized, detail-oriented, and able to work independently.

Preferred

  • Experience with email marketing platforms (Mailchimp, Constant Contact, etc.).
  • Interest in nonprofit communications or development work.
  • Basic understanding of fundraising principles.

Learning Outcomes

The intern will gain experience in:

  • Managing nonprofit communications across multiple channels.
  • Donor relations, stewardship, and fundraising strategy.
  • Running digital fundraising campaigns using Zeffy.
  • Coordinating and contributing to an endowment campaign.
  • Using design tools to create marketing assets.
  • Working proactively and collaboratively within a small nonprofit team.


Compensation:
This internship is part of the Lawrence-Funded internship program. The student selected for this internship will receive a $5k stipend to help cover housing and transportation costs and living expenses.
