ANSWER THE CALL  -  Join the Roseville Police Department in the role of Police Officer Trainee

The Human Resources Department is accepting applications for the Regular and Full-time position of Police Officer Trainee in the Roseville Police Department.  The appointee(s) will attend a P.O.S.T. certified basic academy during regular academy hours and any other scheduled departmental and academy exercise and activities.  Successful completion of the academy is required to continue employment and be promoted to a Police Officer.


DEFINITION

To perform sworn law enforcement and crime prevention duties involved in the protection of life and property; and to perform a variety of technical and administrative tasks in support of law enforcement services and activities.


Applicants selected to participate in the Police Department's testing process will partake in the following:
 

  • PELLET-B Written Examination measures job-related knowledge and abilities.
    • Examination Date: Thursday, March 12, 2026.
    • If you have a PELLETB score, please attach to your application. 
    • NOTE: The minimum acceptable t-score cut-off for the PELLETB is 50 (fifty).

 

  • Performance Test evaluates ability to physically perform the duties of position.
    • Agility Test Date: Tuesday, March 24, 2026.

 

  • Oral Interview evaluates training, experience, and personal qualifications.
    • Interview Dates: March 30 - April 1, 2026.  
    • The interview dates are subject to change, dependent on number of candidates advancing to the interview step.


Background Investigation: Candidates who have successfully completed all prior phases of the selection process will be subject to a thorough background investigation.  The investigation is used to determine a candidate's moral character and suitability for employment in law enforcement.  The investigation shall include, but is not limited to, the following checks: criminal record, polygraph, driving history, credit history, military record, previous employer(s), and references.

Medical Examination: Prior to appointment, candidates must successfully complete a thorough medical examination, including a drug screen, to determine if they meet the City's medical standards for the position of Police Officer.

Psychological Evaluation: Prior to appointment, candidates will be evaluated for their suitability for employment as a Roseville Police Officer

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS

This is the entry level class in the Police Officer series.  Positions in this class typically have little or no directly related work experience and work under immediate supervision while learning job tasks.  The Police Officer Trainee class is distinguished from the Police Officer level by the performance of less than the full range of duties assigned to the Officer level.  Incumbents work under immediate supervision while learning job tasks, progressing to general supervision as procedures and processes of assigned area of responsibility are learned.

 

SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED

Receives immediate supervision from police academy staff; receives technical and functional supervision from an assigned Field Training Officer.

 

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Experience:

  • No experience is required.

AND

Training:

  • Equivalent to completion of the twelfth (12th) grade, GED, or other high school equivalency test approved by the California Department of Education or a higher level degree from an accredited educational institution.

AND

License or Certificate

  • Possession of a valid California driver’s license by date of appointment. 
  • Must be age 21 by date of appointment.
  • Must obtain CPR and First Aid certificates within first 12 months of employment.
