Minneapolis Institute of Art & Middlebury College Summer 2026 Cohort Internship Program

Internship Dates: Summer 2026 (June 8, 2026 – July 31, 2026)

The Minneapolis Institute of Art (Mia) and Middlebury College welcome applications (from students from Middlebury College) for the 2026 Internships co-hosted by Mia’s Curatorial Division and Mia’s Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Division. This intensive 8-week, 30-35 hours per week summer internship program is designed to provide students experience in and develop professional skills towards careers in an art institution. Open to all majors, this internship is available for up to 4 students. The selected interns will be a cohort for summer 2026 working on site in Minneapolis at Mia. In this role, you will….

  • Gain experience to prepare you for future museum career opportunities
  • Depending on the department in which the internship is based and student skills/interest, work on curatorial projects, research, and scholarship, archiving and cataloguing, public programming, supporting community engaged projects, DEI projects and more
  • Work with museum professionals/experts in their field and be part of the museum staff community 
  • Have opportunities for professional development and participation in events offered at the museum 

Specific Requirements

  • Being an enrolled student of Middlebury college 
  • Interest in exploring museum work as a career option
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Self-motivated, organized, self-disciplined, and able to work independently
  • Detail oriented
  • A team player who is adaptable and willing to work in a fast-paced environment
  • Proficiency in multiple languages welcome
  • Interest in research and in community outreach welcome

Potential departments/areas of work:

The CCI Select Internship Program offers Middlebury students the opportunity to take part in impactful, hands-on internships across the U.S. and around the world. Each position is chosen for its strong mentorship, meaningful learning outcomes, and potential to help students explore career interests in a real-world setting.

  • Funding: Interns receive a $5,000 CCI award to support their summer experience. This award will support travel, housing, and food costs. A few housing options will be suggested, and the museum is on a bus line in town. 
  • Requirements: Your résumé must be CCI-approved to apply. Selected interns must participate in all cohort meetings and complete pre-internship forms, a post-internship evaluation, and a donor thank-you letter.
  • Eligibility: Open to returning Middlebury students. Seniors graduating in May 2026, students not enrolled in Spring or Fall 2026, and those planning to transfer are not eligible.
