Position Summary
Davis Polk is currently seeking entry-level Corporate Paralegals for our Financial Institutions Group. We are seeking candidates with strong academic credentials. Education/experience or an interest in public policy is a plus. Successful candidates will have an opportunity to gain an understanding of a niche area of law in financial institutions.
The Financial Institutions Group (FIG) represents many of the most important U.S. and non-U.S. banks, broker-dealers, insurance companies, trading markets, and investment managers. FIG Corporate Paralegals support the attorneys, who advise our clients on a wide variety of matters, including financial regulatory, capital markets, M&A, compliance and enforcement, credit risk management, and insolvency issues.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Typical responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Conduct factual, legal and historical research assignments tailored to client requests under attorney supervision
- Draft correspondence and documentation under attorney supervision
- Assist in the compilation and creation of presentations and memoranda
- Revise, proofread, fact-check, and assist in distribution of various documents
- Assist attorneys in preparation for client meetings and presentations
- Draft, edit, and otherwise assist in publication of client insights and trackers
- Track and monitor financial regulator websites and circulate rule and other releases to the group, so they are updated in real time
- Monitor, analyze and summarize Congressional hearings, academic and trade conferences and meetings of financial regulators
- Prepare and distribute daily summary of important developments and news
- Assist attorneys in preparation for speaking engagements and business development matters
- Prepare and edit drafts of client bills and related documentation
Qualifications/Position Requirements
- Ability to manage a varied workload and meet deadlines
- Must be punctual and reliable
- Proficiency in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and other applications as needed
- Strong interpersonal skills
- Must be able to work collaboratively with attorneys and staff, demonstrating strong teamwork and a positive attitude
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to proofread typed material for typographical, spelling, and grammatical errors
- Strong project management, organizational skills and attention to detail
- Ensure confidentiality of all the Firm's and clients’ documentation and information
Education and/or Experience
- Bachelor’s degree with a strong academic record is required
