About the Internship
The Aviation Department manages five airports at The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, one of the busiest airport systems in the country. Within the Aviation Department, the Strategic Analysis & Forecasting team sits within the Aviation Strategy unit and oversees Airline Activity Data Collection & Reporting, Airline Activity Forecasting, and Industry Analysis. In this internship, the candidate will be able to apply their data analysis and visualization skills to the aviation industry and support the team’s mission of providing agency and department staff with the analytical tools they need for facility planning, revenue projection, and strategic decision making. This is a great opportunity for the candidate to develop their analytical skills while simultaneously learning about the Aviation business.
Responsibilities
- Develop data models in Power BI to support various data analysis and visualization tasks
- Create dashboards in Power BI to replace PDF reporting for the Unit's Annual Traffic Report and for other internal analytical use cases
- Design surveys for internal and external users to understand usage of current dashboards, reports, and analyses
- Use data analysis and visualization tools to analyze and derive insights from aviation datasets
- Help conduct aviation industry research, data analyses, and prepare activity forecasts
Minimum Qualifications
- Enrollment at a college or university at the time of the internship
- Major in Transportation Planning, Urban Planning, Engineering, Statistics, Information Systems, Data Analytics or related discipline
Desired Qualifications
- Experience with Microsoft Power BI or another related data visualization or dashboard tool
- Experience working with both qualitative and quantitative data
- An interest in data collection, management, and visualization
- Interest in public service, transportation, and/or aviation
Internship Details
- The start date will be Thursday, May 28, 2026
- The internship will last approximately 12 weeks, ending on Friday, August 21, 2026
- This is a full-time internship (5 days per week at 7.25 hours per day)
- In accordance with Port Authority policy, this position permits interns to work remotely a maximum of one day per week. In person collaboration is essential to how the Port Authority conducts business and regular in-office days or team collaboration days may be required depending on business needs. Some internships may require interns to be fully in-person.

Compensation & Benefits
- The hourly rate range is $18.07 to $30.31 (the exact rate will be determined by internship type and rising school year)
