Job Summary

 

The Scene Shop Supervisor is responsible for managing all aspects of scenic construction and assembly for theatrical productions. This position oversees daily operations in the scene shop, including supervising personnel, coordinating equipment and supplies, and maintaining inventory.

 

Responsibilities

 

• Function as the managing carpenter in the scene shop.

• Work with Technical Director to develop creative scenic solutions within financial and scheduling parameters.

• Lead scenic changeovers from production to production.

• Train and manage all over-hire labor contracted for scenic construction.

• Work with Scenic Artists to coordinate shop/load-in schedules.

• Oversee scenic and tool maintenance.

• Maintain load-in schedule with the Technical Director and ensure timely completion of all scenic elements.

• Work with Technical Director to develop and maintain scene shops and stage related facilities.

 

Minimum Qualifications

 

• High school or equivalent plus a minimum of Three years of professional theatre carpentry experience

• Industry knowledge of the following: carpentry, rigging (fly house/fixed grid), steel, welding, foam and plastics

• Leadership and supervision experience

• Ability to use basic carpentry and power tools; personal computer; knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions; strong communication and collaboration skills.

 

Physical requirements include ability to stand for long periods of time; exerting in excess of 100 pounds of force occasionally, in excess of 50 pounds of force frequently lifting and moving objects; frequent stooping, kneeling, and crouching; occasional climbing of ladders and scaffolds; frequent carrying of loads up and down stairs; works in all weather conditions and in very dusty, noisy conditions; occasionally exposed to chemicals and solvents.

 

Preferred Qualifications

 

• Bachelor's degree; or commensurate experience in Theatre

• Vectorworks or Autocad experience.

Anticipated Hiring Salary Range:

 

• $20.75 to $24.69 per hour
