Human Resources Assistant
Position Title: HR Assistant (Part time, benefits eligible)
Location: Herrity Building; 12055 Government Center Parkway, Fairfax, VA.
Hours: Hours are flexible Monday through Friday. Position works 30 hours per week in-person. Requires some evening and weekend work.
Salary: $19.83 to $30 per hour.
Overview: The Fairfax County Park Authority (FCPA), one of the largest and most complex park agencies in the region, is seeking a detail-oriented and customer-focused Human Resources Assistant to join our HR team. Under the supervision of the Human Resources Generalist, this position performs a variety of administrative HR functions, including employee relations support, recruitment coordination, data reporting, and general HR administration.
This role supports a diverse workforce across more than 400 parks and facilities countywide. The ideal candidate is organized, proactive, comfortable handling confidential information, and eager to contribute to a positive employee experience. A valid driver’s license is required to travel to park sites and facilities for meetings and trainings as needed.
Duties Include:
Employee Relations
- Maintain accurate and confidential employee relations records, documentation, and HR database updates.
- Schedule, coordinate, and support employee relations meetings, inquiries, and administrative processes.
- Assist HR Generalist in charge of Employee Relations with employee complaint intake, fact gathering, and drafting policies and disciplinary actions.
- Prepare and analyze employee relations data, reports and presentations.
- Serve as Reporting Control for HR data and help develop and/or deliver HR-related training.
- Support administration of employee relations programs and initiatives.
Recruiting
- Draft and post job announcements in NEOGOV and other recruitment platforms; track applicant flow and outreach sources.
- Coordinate with hiring managers and candidates to ensure timely communication and completion of hiring requirements.
- Maintain recruitment databases, records, and shared mailbox inquiries; produce standard hiring and vacancy reports.
- Attend job fairs and hiring events, support special recruiting projects, seasonal hiring, and outreach initiatives.
- Prepare recruitment and onboarding documentation and ensure compliance with county policies and hiring guidelines.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Ability to handle sensitive information with confidentiality and discretion.
- Experience with email management and document tracking.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Outlook, Word).
Preferred Qualifications:
- 1-2 years of experience in HR, employee relations, or related field.
- Knowledge of federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations.
- Familiarity with recruitment platforms (e.g., Indeed, Handshake) is a plus.
- Ability to build positive relationships with employees.
- Experience in preparing reports and presentations.
Note: This position may not exceed 1,560 hours per calendar year. This position is eligible for limited benefits.
