Assistant Professor, Academic Success Coordinator, Nursing

The School of Nursing at Shawnee State University invites applications to fill one tenure-track Full-time Faculty/Academic Success Coordinator position for the Nursing program to begin January 12, 2026. The Department seeks a faculty member with a commitment to the mission and goals of the University, the College and the School of Nursing.
The successful candidate’s responsibilities will include half teaching load including teaching undergraduate courses in the Nursing program but not limited to; didactic instruction in both the traditional and online formats, clinical instruction and supervision of nursing students assigned to affiliate hospitals in Ohio and Kentucky; demonstrate proficiency with internet-based technologies and online pedagogies; utilize internet-based tools to enhance classroom/clinical learning and interact with students; advise undergraduate students; serve on school, college or university committees; engage in professional development/scholarly activities; represent the University in community service activities/events; and engage with students in out-of-classroom co-curricular activities. Candidates must have a strong commitment to undergraduate education with the ability and willingness to teach online courses. The candidate may also have teaching responsibilities in a future graduate nursing program.
The candidate’s other half workload will include academic success coordination in the undergraduate nursing program.  These activities will include but are not limited to;· one-on-one and group coaching sessions to support nursing students in areas such as time management, study skills, test-taking strategies, and clinical readiness, setting achievable academic and career goals, regular progress check-ins, develop personalized learning plans that address individual needs and learning styles, assisting with process and tools (i.e. HESI dashboard, EAQ’s, Sherpath, Blackboard Learning Management System). The candidate will also assist with retention and persistence of students by; monitoring student academic performance and attendance; intervene early when concerns arise, connect with campus resources, including tutoring, library services, counseling and financial aid, collaborate with faculty to identify at-risk students and implement targeted support strategies. The candidate will address student development and engagement in the program by:  addressing unique challenges faced by adult learners, including balancing education with work and family responsibilities, organizing workshops on topics i.e. test taking strategies, study skills, and time management and development of peer mentoring and study group programs. Candidate will collaborate, train and assist faculty with identification of at-risk students, remediation planning, and remediation and retention of students.

Minimum Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  1. Master of Science Nursing and three (3) years of full-time teaching experience at a regionally accredited institution; OR Master of Science Nursing and five (5) years of professional experience in nursing may be considered
  2. Valid unencumbered licensure in Ohio is required and multi-state compact Ohio licensure is strongly preferred.
  3. Related professional experience in Nursing; and 
  4. Successful teaching experience both in classroom and clinical settings in an associate degree and/or baccalaureate nursing program, and nursing clinical expertise.
  5. Some academic success coaching and support of students or graduates. 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
 

  1. Doctorate in Nursing or related field and three (3) years of full-time teaching experience at regionally accredited institution or five (5) years of professional experience in nursing. If the doctorate is not in nursing, the individual must hold a master of science degree in nursing from a regionally accredited institution
  2. Academic Success Coaching experience. 
  3. Nursing Leadership/Management experience.
