DHS Office of Civil Rights Compliance (OCRC) Internship
As an intern with the Office of Civil Rights Compliance (OCRC), you will support the agency’s mission to advance civil rights compliance for both internal and external stakeholders. OCRC is responsible for implementing and integrating federal civil rights laws and regulations, including the Civil Rights Act, Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), Age Discrimination in Employment Act, Equal Pay Act, Genetic Information Nondiscrimination Act, Pregnant Workers Fairness Act, No FEAR Act, and related statutes and executive orders.
Interns will assist in promoting fundamental fairness, equal opportunity, and constitutional freedoms, while helping ensure efficient and effective civil rights compliance throughout the agency. Responsibilities may include research, analysis, outreach, and supporting compliance initiatives. This internship offers the opportunity to learn how civil rights compliance contributes to productivity, integrity, and model workplaces.
Division Assignments May Include:
Disability and Conflict Management Division:
Assist in administering reasonable accommodation processes, supporting annual Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO) reporting, and providing resources to address workforce needs.
Civil Liberties Division (CLD):
Support initiatives to uphold civil rights and civil liberties for external stakeholders, enhance access to ICE programs and services, assist in developing training and technical assistance for language and disability access, and participate in outreach and process improvement activities.
Equal Employment Opportunity Division (EEOD):
Contribute to the processing of EEO complaints in accordance with agency policies and federal EEO statutes, including Title VII of the Civil Rights Act and related executive orders. Support the EEO complaint process for employees and applicants who allege discrimination based on race, color, religion, sex (including pregnancy), national origin, age (40 and over), disability, genetic information, or reprisal.
Eligibility Requirements:
- Must be a U.S. citizen
- Must be enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate program
- Must have at least a 3.0 GPA on a 4.0 scale
