Music Educator

DeRuyter CSD is seeking an enthusiastic and dedicated Music Educator to lead and support our Grades 5–12 Band and Choir programs. The district is open to either a combined Band/Choir position or separating the responsibilities depending on candidate strengths and program needs. The successful candidate(s) will provide high-quality instruction, foster a positive and engaging learning environment, and inspire students to achieve both personal and ensemble excellence.

Primary Responsibilities:

• Teach and direct Band and/or Choir ensembles in grades 5–12
• Provide small-group and individual instrumental and/or vocal lessons
• Plan and conduct seasonal concerts, festivals, and community performances
• Develop curriculum aligned with NYS Learning Standards for the Arts
• Maintain an organized and well-managed rehearsal environment
• Collaborate with faculty, administration, and the music department to support program growth
• Communicate effectively with students, families, and the school community
• Oversee inventory, maintenance, and distribution of instruments, music, and related materials

Qualifications:

• Valid NYS Certification in Music (K–12 or appropriate equivalent)
• Strong background in instrumental and/or vocal music education
• Ability to motivate and support students of varying skill levels
• Excellent organizational, communication, and classroom management skills
• Commitment to professional growth and participation in school-wide initiatives
