Continuous Improvement Intern
This internship is a full-time position located on Berea College’s campus with the Office of Continuous Improvement. The Office of Continuous Improvement exists to promote a culture of continuous improvement across Berea College by leading campus departments to become more effective and efficient in meeting departmental goals and objectives, while saving money and/or time.
The position will have both in-person and virtual aspects and students are expected to work a total of 300 hours over eight weeks, which results in a 40-hour work week. Students will receive academic credit for this internship, and they will be paid by the Berea College Internship Office through grant funding.
Duties Required:
- Work with a small team of peers to complete an approved continuous improvement project, which will result in Green Belt certification from the Haslam School of Business at the University of Tennessee
- Work with a team of peers to implement other continuous improvement projects on Berea College’s campus and in the community. Projects could include, but are not limited to: 5-S organization projects, training sessions for faculty/staff at Berea College and community partners, lean management projects
- Attend all required meetings, virtual and in-person field trips and training sessions, including Lean Applied to Business Processes (LABP), team meetings, internship meetings, community partner meetings and specific skill training sessions with the Berea College Office of Continuous Improvement
Required Qualifications and Skills:
- Complete Berea College Internship requirements, including successful completion of the online Internship Prep Course by the firm deadline of February 15, 2026.
- Ability to work and communicate well with peers in both large and small groups and with community partners, faculty, staff, and college administrators
- Interest in continuous improvement, lean management, Green Belt certification and Six Sigma
- Ability to take initiative, speak publicly to groups of multiple sizes, and communicate effectively and efficiently with others
- Ability to work independently and in groups
- Ability to successfully represent Berea College and the Berea College Office of Continuous Improvement in different settings
Preferred Qualifications and Skills:
- Previous knowledge of continuous improvement, lean management, Green Belt certification and/or Six Sigma
