About the Internship:

The first Hudson River vehicular tunnel was opened in 1927. It was considered an outstanding engineering achievement, whose principles are employed to this day. The Holland Tunnel was designated a National Historic Civil and Mechanical Engineering Landmark in 1984 by the American Society of Civil and Mechanical Engineers. In 1993, the tunnel was designated a National Historic Landmark by the U.S. Department of Interior.

Responsibilities

  • Review drawings
  • Assist with all tours of facility buildings
  • Visit job sites. 
  • Attend meetings, prepare memoranda, gather information
  • Assist the Physical Plant Manager, Operations Manager, and/or the Senior Business Manager with all ongoing and planned construction activity, operational activities, and/or Administrative Unit projects at the Holland Tunnel.
  • Assist with overseeing and coordinating various Holland Tunnel Facility projects.
  • Take notes for meetings
  • Coordinate with other departments/units

Minimum Qualifications

  • Enrollment at a college or university at the time of the internship
  • Major in Engineering
  • Valid driver's license

Desired Qualifications

  • Proficient with Microsoft Office
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Interest in contributing to the success of the New York and New Jersey region.
  • Interest in public service and/or transportation
  • Willingness to learn

Internship Details

  • The start date will be Thursday, May 28, 2026
  • The internship will last approximately 12 weeks, ending on Friday, August 21, 2026
  • This is a full-time internship (5 days per week at 7.25 hours per day)
  • The format is expected to be fully in-person

Compensation & Benefits

  • The hourly rate range is $18.07 to $30.31 (the exact rate will be determined by internship type and rising school year)
