Position Overview
As a Primary Therapist, you will provide individual and group therapy to adults in our treatment program. You will work closely with a multidisciplinary team to create and carry out treatment plans that support each client’s recovery. This role is a strong fit for someone who is compassionate, committed to excellent care, and experienced in working with diverse populations.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct biopsychosocial assessments, diagnose substance use and co occurring disorders, and determine level of care using ASAM criteria.
- Maintain accurate and timely electronic health records.
- Create individualized treatment plans with clear and measurable goals.
- Provide individual and group counseling consistent with treatment goals.
- Review and update treatment plans as clients progress.
- Monitor client progress and determine the need for continued services, discharge, or transfer.
- Coordinate care with external providers to support integrated services.
- Complete all documentation, assessments, updates, and discharge plans in a timely and compliant manner.
- Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings and case consultations.
- Recognize and respond to psychiatric crises and follow all mandatory reporting requirements.
- Maintain accurate and timely Electronic Health Records (EHR)
- Attend required trainings and staffing meetings.
- Perform additional duties as assigned by supervisors or the Clinical Director.
Qualifications/Required Experience
- Experience providing therapy to individuals with substance use and co-occurring mental health disorders.
- Familiarity with ASAM, DSM-5, and trauma-informed care models.
- Education & Licensure
- Master's degree in Counseling, Social Work, Psychology, or a related field.
- Active licensure or certification in the state of Virginia (LPC, LCSW, LMSW, LMFT, or equivalent) preferred

Position Requirements
- A minimum of 2 years experience in chemical dependency and psychiatric setting preferred
- Graduate from an accredited college or university with a minimum of master’s degree in Psychology, Social Work, Counseling, or health-related field.
- Knowledge of Joint Commission requirements preferred.
- CPR certification required.
