10 WEEK PROJECT SCOPE:

  • Week 1 – Present CONOPS of a given Capability to interns while they are being onboarded
  • Weeks 2-3 – Interns design and plan infrastructure they plan to use. At the end of each week, managers perform design reviews and give feedback. At the end of week two, the plan is finalized, and the team moves forward
  • Weeks 4-5 – Team shall be able to demonstrate the initial Capability design. The goal here is to show the decomposition of capability from a top-level behavior, down to how individual software elements satisfy the original CONOPS
  • Weeks 6-7 – Mature the design via furth decomposition, inclusive of requirements, interfaces, and necessary control elements (e.g. Human Machine Interfaces)
  • Weeks 8-9 – Finalize full design package for internal review by key stakeholders
  • Week 10 – Wrap up, enhancements, bugfixes, prep for demonstration to larger SAI community

PROJECT GOALS & DELIVERABLES:

  • The CONOP is relevant to current and future projects
  • Interns will get a full experience of work at SAI from planning a project to executing
  • A joint effort can help all managers as most teammates should understand this CONOP well enough to give feedback, advice, and mentor
  • This effort will allow us to put together tools that have been developed by multiple teams and make sure they are ready for primetime.
  • Interns can leverage lessons learned from previous design efforts

REQUIRED SKILLS:

  • An Undergraduate, Graduate or PhD student expected to graduate in December 2026 or Spring 2027
  • Pursuing a degree in Systems Engineering, Computer Science, or related STEM field
  • Background in Autonomy, Robotics and/or Aerospace
  • Experience with Models Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) via knowledge of SysML and/or experience with Cameo
  • Exceptional written & verbal communication
  • Demonstrated history of showing ownership of project outcomes and delivering exceptional results
  • Record of working hard, being a trustworthy teammate, holding yourself and others to high standards, and being kind to others

KPIS/MILESTONES:

  • Decomposition of the Capability at the Level 0 (Solution), Level 1 (System/Segment), Level 2 (Subsystem) and Level 3 (Software Component) specificities.
  • Design of the Capability inclusive of Mission Autonomy, Command & Control (C2), and relevant Mission Planning support necessary to accomplish said Capability.
  • Design Package includes full sets of requirements with proper tracing.
  • Design Package includes full set of relevant MBSE diagrams with proper tracing.
