Technical Assistant
Position Overview
The Technical Assistant will support the Utah LTAP Center on the Six Counties Project, focusing on transportation-related data collection, analysis, and asset management. This summer position provides hands-on experience in engineering and GIS applications while working closely with local agencies across Utah.
Key Responsibilities
Duties may include, but are not limited to:
· Conducting traffic counts, pavement assessments, and sign inventories
· Collecting, organizing, and analyzing transportation data
· Assisting with GIS-based asset management projects
· Preparing reports using GIS and TAMS (Transportation Asset Management System) for agencies within the Six Counties region
· Supporting video editing, equipment setup, and database management as needed
· Participating in frequent weekly project meetings (likely via Zoom)
· Traveling for fieldwork as needed (some weeks may require multiple days of travel)
Work Schedule
· Summer Only: Up to 40 hours per week
· Travel is expected during parts of the summer as data collection needs vary
· Remote meeting participation is acceptable for weekly check-ins
Preferred Skills (Optional)
· Interest or coursework in civil engineering, transportation, GIS, or related fields
· Familiarity with ArcGIS, QGIS, or other GIS platforms
· Experience with data collection, databases, or video processing
· Strong attention to detail and ability to work independently
