Disability Specialist & Service Coordinator

  • Assess eligibility for services and determine reasonable accommodations based on documentation provided by appropriate medical professionals. Documentation may include medical reports and psycho-educational test results. Disability Specialist and Service Coordinator will serve students with a variety of disabilities with a focus in students with psychological disorders and learning disabilities.
  • Conducts initial interviews with students with disabilities and provides advisement regarding various academic topics.
  • Act as an advocate for students with disabilities while responding to related inquiries from faculty, staff, and students. Develops and presents information that builds awareness of disabilities within the campus community as well as participates in university and divisional committees.
  • Develop and implement skill building programs to facilitate academic retention for students with disabilities. Identify and develop appropriate materials to meet the educational needs of individual students. Assist department and university community with conducting regular assessments of services and learning outcomes. 

 

Education:

Minimum Master’s Degree in Education, Counseling or related field required. Certified Rehabilitation Counselors (CRC) preferred.

Experience:

Requires up to 2 years and prefer 1 year of relevant experience (including internships and graduate work) in accommodating the needs of students with disabilities including the interpretation of psycho-educational reports and legislation. Demonstrated knowledge of the Americans with Disabilities Act and other applicable laws required. Experience working directly with students with disabilities who are in a post-secondary setting is required. Strong communication, instructional, and counseling skills required.
