About the Role:
We are seeking an enthusiastic Program Coordinator to implement and oversee GoSTEM's youth development programs at our partner Chicago Public Schools. This is a hands-on role working directly with high school students to inspire curiosity in STEM fields and support their educational futures. You'll be the face of GoSTEM in our schools, creating a safe and positive environment where students can explore STEM careers and prepare for life after high school.
What You'll Do:
Program Implementation (50%)
- Lead interactive STEM enrichment activities that introduce students to diverse STEM careers and spark curiosity through hands-on learning
- Facilitate the Horizon Program, supporting students with college applications, scholarship searches, and skill-building extracurricular activities
- Design and implement engaging lesson plans in collaboration with the Program Manager
- Create a welcoming, safe space for students to explore their educational goals and interests
- Adapt programming to meet the diverse needs and learning styles of high school students
Program Operations & Volunteer Management (50%)
- Train, coordinate, and supervise volunteers who help implement programming
- Record detailed attendance and program data (critical for grant reporting)
- Track student progress and program outcomes
- Maintain accurate records and submit reports to the Program Assistant
- Ensure all safety protocols are followed during program activities
- Travel between up to 3 CPS school locations as needed (approximately 20% of role)
Requirements:
Required:
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Prior experience working with high school students in an educational or mentoring capacity
- Reliable transportation (personal vehicle or CTA) with strong time management skills
- Ability to pass a background check
- Availability to work flexible hours Monday-Friday between 8 AM - 5 PM
Preferred:
- Bachelor's degree in Education, Youth Development, STEM field, or related area
- Experience with classroom management and group facilitation
- STEM background or demonstrated interest in STEM education
- Public speaking and presentation skills
- Cultural competency and experience working with diverse student populations
- Lesson planning experience
Position Details:
- Schedule: Flexible hours between 8 AM - 5 PM, Monday - Friday
- Location: 3 partner CPS high schools in Chicago (travel between locations may be required)
- Contract Length: 1 year with opportunities for renewal
- Pay Range: $17.50 - $21.00/hour based on experience
