Founded in 1863 by the De La Salle Christian Brothers, Saint Mary’s College High School is one of the oldest Lasallian Catholic secondary schools in the western United States. Located on its historic Peralta Park campus in Albany, California, Saint Mary’s continues the educational vision of Saint John Baptist de
La Salle, providing a holistic, college-preparatory education that fosters intellectual growth, spiritual awareness, and social responsibility. Position Summary
The Principal of Saint Mary’s College High School is a faith-filled and mission-driven educational leader responsible for the academic life, student experience, and day-to-day operations of the school. Rooted in the Lasallian tradition of Saint John Baptist de La Salle, the Principal ensures that teaching and
learning reflect excellence, inclusion, and service while fostering a vibrant, supportive community.
 

Serving as the school’s chief academic and operational officer, the Principal leads faculty and staff in providing a holistic college-preparatory education that forms students in mind, body, and spirit and advances Saint Mary's Lasallian Catholic identity.

Primary Responsibilities:
Leadership & Mission Integration
● Promote and sustain the Lasallian Catholic mission and Core Principles across all areas of school life.
● Lead the implementation of programs that reflect the Lasallian Educational Outcomes and foster growth in faith, intellect, and community.
● Serve as the instructional and spiritual leader for faculty, staff, and students, modeling respect, collaboration, and inclusivity.
● Support mission formation and professional development opportunities for faculty and staff.
● Collaborate closely with the President to align educational priorities with strategic and institutional goals.
 

Academic & Program Leadership
● Oversee the design, delivery, and assessment of a rigorous, student-centered college preparatory curriculum.
● Supervise and evaluate faculty and academic support staff with a focus on professional growth and instructional excellence.
● Support innovative teaching practices that address diverse learning styles and promote student engagement.
● Maintain accreditation standards and lead school-wide efforts for WCEA/WASC and Lasallian Catholic Assessment processes.
● Ensure that academic programs integrate faith, ethics, and social justice consistent with the Lasallian tradition.
 

Student Experience & Community Life
● Foster a culture of belonging, mutual respect, and service reflective of Lasallian values.
● Oversee student formation, discipline, and wellness in partnership with Deans, Counselors, and the Campus Ministry team.
● Promote student leadership, co-curricular participation, and community involvement.
● Ensure compliance with all safety, supervision, and student welfare policies, including those related to the City of Albany’s Conditional Use Permit.
 

Operational & Administrative Management
● Supervise key administrators, including the Vice Principal, Deans, Directors, and Faculty.
● Collaborate with the President and Director of Finance on budget planning, staffing, and resource allocation.
● Oversee scheduling, handbooks, calendars, and day-to-day operational logistics. 

● Partner with Advancement, Admissions, and Athletics to strengthen school-wide collaboration and communication.
● Represent the school in meetings with the Diocese of Oakland, the District of San Francisco New Orleans, and accrediting or civic agencies.
● The Principal serves as a key member of the school’s leadership team, collaborating with administrators, faculty, staff, and community partners to ensure alignment with Saint Mary’s College High School's mission and strategic goals.

Community Engagement & Communication
● Serve as a visible and approachable presence for students, parents, and faculty.
● Partner with families as primary educators through open communication and shared mission.
● Support Advancement and Admissions initiatives that promote the school’s reputation and relationships with alumni, parishes, and partner schools.
● Communicate effectively and transparently with all constituents, modeling professionalism and integrity.
 

Work Schedule & Expectations
● Full-time, exempt position requiring flexibility beyond standard business hours.
● Maintain a consistent and visible presence on campus during the school day.
● Attend and support major school events, liturgies, and student activities.
● Participate in evening programs, athletic contests, and weekend activities as part of the role’s leadership and community engagement responsibilities.
● Be available to respond to urgent school needs or situations that may arise outside of regular hours.
 

Qualifications
● Master’s degree required.
● Minimum seven years of teaching experience and five years of school leadership or administrative experience.
● Experience in Catholic or Lasallian education preferred.
● Demonstrated success in academic leadership, faculty development, and community building.
● Strong organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills.
● Demonstrated commitment to Catholic education and the Lasallian Core Principles; practicing Catholic required.

Computer Skills
● The successful candidate will demonstrate proficiency in Microsoft Office, Google Workspace, and general internet applications. Prior experience with database management systems is preferred.
