About the VOLinternship Program:
The VOLintern Program is UTK's on-campus internship program. Each internship will run for the duration of one academic semester. About the Internship:
The Marketing & Community Engagement Intern will support Breast Connect’s mission by assisting with digital communication, community events, organizational documentation, and internal processes. This role helps strengthen our connection with breast cancer survivors across East Tennessee by creating meaningful content, supporting event logistics, and contributing to data-informed decision-making. The intern will gain hands-on experience in nonprofit marketing, community engagement, and organizational operations.
Internship Responsibilities:
- Create, schedule, and assist in managing social media content for platforms such as Facebook and Instagram.
- Support monthly email newsletter production, including gathering stories, drafting copy, and helping with layout and distribution.
- Assist with event planning and execution for support programs, community fundraisers, and outreach initiatives.
- Manage and organize data within internal systems (e.g., event attendance, volunteer tracking, contact lists) to support reporting and donor engagement.
- Collaborate with staff and volunteers to highlight survivor stories, upcoming programs, and community partners.
- Help document internal processes, organizational procedures, and policy updates to support operational consistency.
- Assist with general administrative tasks and special projects as assigned to support the organization’s mission.
Qualifications:
- Strong written communication skills and a creative approach to storytelling.
Familiarity with social media platforms and basic content creation tools (e.g., Canva). - Ability to stay organized, meet deadlines, and manage multiple tasks.
- Strong attention to detail, especially when documenting processes or procedures.
- Willingness to learn, take initiative, and work collaboratively with a small but passionate team.
- Interest in nonprofit work, community engagement, marketing, communications, or a related field.
Additional Information:
- This internship provides hands-on experience in nonprofit communications, program support, process documentation, and community outreach. Hours are flexible, and some event support may take place on evenings or weekends. Ideal for students seeking experience in marketing, communications, nonprofit operations, or health advocacy.
