Intern - Applied Optics
Physical Sciences Inc. (PSI), located just north of Boston, MA seeks a rising junior or senior with experience in plant biology, physics, mechanical or electrical engineering for an internship supporting our project to develop and demonstrate a field-deployable hyperspectral fluorescence imaging system.
PSI is developing an advanced hyperspectral fluorescence lifetime imaging technology that enables non-destructive visualization of plant metabolism and microbial systems. This project will result in a new technology that allows researchers to collect field-based data and monitor physiological and biochemical behaviors of plants and microbial communities in their natural environments.
The responsibilities of the intern supporting this project include:
- Assist PSI scientists to assemble and test prototype fluorescence imagers.
- Participate in instrument testing experiments during plant biology studies at a collaborating institution.
- Collect and analyze experimental imaging data.
- Present results and findings to team members.
During this internship, the candidate will work with experts in the field to gain experience developing and testing advanced fluorescence / optical imaging instruments, computer programing, data analysis, and scientific presentation/communication skills.
This internship may be most beneficial for students pursuing degrees in plant biology, physics, optical engineering, mechanical engineering, or electrical engineering.
Hourly Wage Range : $20-$35
Candidates must be a US citizen.
All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to their race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, disability, or status as a protected veteran.
