IGA Media and Communications Intern

POSITION: 

2026 USGA P.J. Boatwright Media & Tournament Communications Intern 
 

LENGTH OF INTERNSHIP: 

 3 Months: May-August (dates are flexible) 

 

POSITION CONCEPT: 

Funded through a grant from the United States Golf Association, this P.J. Boatwright Internship is tailored to prepare an individual through a comprehensive introduction and extensive training experience for a career in public relations, media, graphic design, journalism, or communications. The primary focus of this position will be to assist both the IGA’s Director of Marketing and Communications and Administrator of Media & Communications. This position is based from the Idaho Golf Association’s Boise location.  

 

RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE, BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO: 

-Writing journalistic and creative articles relevant to the Idaho Golf Community, and engaging copy for our website and social media 

-Capturing photos and videos to thoughtfully cover IGA championships, events and initiatives for all Idaho golfers 

-Generating and executing ideas for engaging social media campaigns and newsletters 

-Providing on-site support for the Manager of Rules and Competitions in conducting championships across Southern Idaho 

-Assisting in the day-to-day responsibilities of the Marketing and Communications team 

 

QUALIFICATIONS: 

-Ability to work a full-time, 40+ hours per week schedule 

-Deep familiarity with sports, sports media and golf etiquette (strong golf knowledge preferred) 

-Preferred area of study or background in journalism, communications, graphic design, public relations, or related field 

-Organization of tasks and exceptional time management skills are required 

-Requires strong work ethic, communication skills (both verbal and written) and ability to work in a team environment 

-Must gain a working knowledge of association policies and procedures and make appropriate decisions regarding those policies 

-Must be confident to make decisions that represent the IGA 

-Up-to-date skills and working knowledge of Canva, social media platforms, Adobe Creative Cloud, or other creative programs 

-Comfortable working “on-the-fly" and without the immediate assistance of artificial intelligence (use of AI tools is welcome and encouraged but cannot be relied upon for this role) 

 

TRAVEL: 

-This position requires occasional travel with the ability to be on the road for a full week including weekends  

-Must possess a valid driver’s license, have own transportation, and be comfortable driving and packing vans

-This is a paid internship ($2,750 per month)

-Opportunity to work for the governing body of amateur golf in Idaho gaining valuable experience in the field of sports media and operations
