Adventure Coordinator
Camp Onomia is looking for energetic individuals to join our community as the Adventure Coordinator for the summer season. Since 1949, Camp Onomia has been a place set apart of Christian nurture, where all people are encouraged to encounter Christ through Creation and Community. During the summer Camp Onomia runs week long overnight camp, sends staff to churches to run day camps (Vacation Bible School), and hosts family camps and other group retreats on site.
The Adventure Coordinator is responsible for leading and overseeing all outdoor and adventure-based programming at camp. This includes managing the waterfront, swimming, boating, camping trips, and cookouts. The Adventure Coordinator ensures that campers have safe, memorable, and exciting experiences while also serving as a mentor and point person for summer counselors.
Key Responsibilities
- Waterfront management: Supervise swimming and boating activities, ensuring safety protocols are followed and equipment is maintained.
- Boating activities: Organize canoeing, paddle boarding, and other boating programs, teaching proper techniques and safety.
- Camping trips: Plan and lead overnight camping experiences, including site setup, outdoor skills, and camper engagement.
- Cookouts & outdoor meals: Coordinate campfire cooking and outdoor dining experiences, fostering teamwork and fun.
- Mentor counselors: Provide guidance, training, and support to summer counselors, helping them succeed in their roles.
- Safety oversight: Enforce camp safety standards across all adventure activities, including emergency preparedness and risk management.
- Promote camp spirit: Encourage enthusiasm, resilience, and camaraderie among campers and staff.
Together with the Leadership Team
- Manage canteen: Oversee operations, including stocking, sales, and camper interactions, maintaining a friendly and organized environment.
- Mentor counselors: Provide guidance, support, and feedback to summer counselors, fostering a positive staff culture.
- Provide camper supervision: Lead activities during daily all staff meetings. When necessary, members of the leadership team may serve as a counselor for an hour to a week.
- Create a Christ centered space at camp where all are welcomed, accepted, and celebrated as they are.
