Summer Camp Counselor
Minimal Qualifications:
● Active Christian faith
● Passion for coaching children/youth and building Christian community
● Willingness to support the theological doctrines and practices of the United Methodist Church
● At least one year of college completed
● Ability and willingness to:
o practice servant leadership while working collaboratively within a team
o facilitate harmonious relationships and interactions between campers and fellow staff members o perform in potentially strenuous physical activities (hiking, lifting gear, camp-outs, etc.)
o give and receive constructive feedback
o solve problems creatively in fast-paced and at times high-stress environments
o nurture values for nature and creation within self and campers General and Specific Responsibilities:
● Ensure High-Quality Camper Supervision
o Coach and supervise children/youth (2nd-12th grade) in an overnight camp environment Sunday-Friday for 9 weeks
o Maintain supervision and responsibility of up to six campers each week
o Regard safety (physical and emotional) as the first priority and most important consideration in every circumstance
o Oversee camper safety and general well-being
o Tend to campers’ individual needs and health concerns
o Guide an overnight campout for campers each week
o Belay campers at the Challenge Course o Maintain clean and organized living and common spaces
● Foster a group culture that encourages team-building and belonging among campers
o Collaborate with a co-counselor to plan and lead activities that are differentiated for your campers each week
o Plan and debrief activities to allow for growth and reflection in individual and spiritual growth
o Practice and teach small group camping as detailed in staff training
o Allow space for campers to discover and practice their God-given gifts and strengths and leadership abilities
o Ensure adherence to NGCRM’s core values (Radical Acceptance, Unconditional Love, Experiential Learning, and Christian Community) in daily interactions.
● Maintain Missional Focus
o Incorporate provided curriculum throughout daily activities and routines
o Emphasize intentionality in spiritual growth and development
o Coordinate morning devotionals and worship/reflection experiences with you
