Middle School Industrial Arts Teacher
Ottawa USD 290 is seeking an enthusiastic Middle School Industrial Arts Teacher to inspire students (grades 6-8) with foundational skills in design, construction, and safety. This role is crucial for introducing students to technical careers and fostering practical problem-solving abilities that encourage lifelong learning and personal project work.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and deliver hands-on curriculum focused on basic woodworking, including measuring, cutting, assembly, and finishing techniques.
- Prioritize and teach tool and shop safety skills for all hand and power tools appropriate for the middle school level, instilling responsible habits.
- Manage a dynamic and safe classroom/shop environment, maintaining equipment and inventory.
- Integrate industrial arts principles with math and science concepts.
- Foster student creativity, design thinking, and collaborative project work.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Technology, Technology Education, or a related field.
- Current Kansas Teaching Certificate with appropriate endorsement (Technology Education or Industrial Arts).
- Demonstrated knowledge of and commitment to shop safety protocols.
- Experience or strong ability to teach basic woodworking skills to middle school-aged students.
