Vector Control Technician
The Mosquito and Vector Management District of Santa Barbara County is seeking applicants for the position of Vector Control Technician. After successful completion of a six-month probationary period, fulfillment of training requirements and satisfactory work performance, the employee will be promoted to permanent status as Vector Control Technician I or II (depending on qualifications and experience). Under direction, work for this class involves the inspection and surveillance of disease and nuisance vector sources, and the application of control measures in conformance with Federal and State Laws, Regulations, and District Policies. Work is performed in accordance with established methods and techniques, but the employee will exercise considerable independent judgment in vector inspection, surveillance and control assignments. Guidance and direction is received from supervisory and lead staff through instruction and reviews of work performance. The appointee for the class will work in varying outdoor environments in existing weather conditions. The trainee will be exposed to various pesticides, organic materials common in vector-producing environments and disease/nuisance vectors including venomous and stinging insects.
MINIMUM EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION:
Graduation from High School and one year’s full-time experience employed by a Vector Control or Management District/Department as a Vector Control Technician or any equivalent combination of the above required education and experience. Possession of a Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited institution in Biology or closely related field, as determined by the District, may be substituted for one year of the above-required experience.
