📌 Volunteer Canvasser – Responsibilities & Expectations
Light travel to community events and public locations across Michigan
Join Rachel Howard’s U.S. Senate campaign as a Volunteer Canvasser and help power our grassroots effort to get on the ballot and connect with voters. This role is essential to our signature collection strategy and voter outreach work. You’ll collaborate with our Field Organizing Interns and take part in on-the-ground activities that directly move the campaign forward.
What you’ll do:
- Collect signatures at community events, campuses, high-traffic areas, and local gatherings
- Assist with door-to-door canvassing to engage voters and gather support
- Participate in phone and text banking efforts
- Help identify strong signature-collection opportunities in your area
- Track completed signatures and report progress to the Field Team
- Support field events as needed, including setup, outreach, and volunteer engagement
This role is great for someone who is:
- Comfortable talking with community members and approaching the public
- Energetic, personable, and motivated by mission-driven work
- Interested in learning how campaigns organize on the ground
- Reliable and willing to attend key events or canvassing shifts
- Open to working closely with our Field Organizing Interns and Field Lead
Helpful skills (not required):
- Clear communication and people skills
- Basic digital literacy (Google Sheets, texting/calling platforms)
- Previous canvassing or volunteer experience
- Multilingual or bilingual ability
Time Commitment: Flexible — ideally 5–7 hours/week, depending on event schedules and availability.
Compensation: This is an unpaid volunteer role that directly supports ballot access and voter engagement efforts.
