Student Technician - Library Archives - FWS (reserved for student enrolled in HIS 431)
Job Summary
The archives in the library is responsible for storing and preserving materials related to the history of Union University as well as some Baptist history and local Jackson-Madison county history. The intern in this position will assist the Public Services Librarian (also known as the Archivist) with some projects that aid in preserving Union’s history. This person will be responsible for completing 100 hours of work in the archives (supervised by the Archivist) in addition to completing class work (supervised by a History faculty member).
A successful candidate needs to be accurate, reliable, and detail oriented. Some lifting of heavy boxes of books and other materials is involved.
Tasks and Responsibilities
1. Currently enrolled in classes for the fall at Union.
3. Dependability and positive work attitude
4. Willing to be of assistance outside area of responsibility if needed
5. Able to work independently on projects
6. Interest in the history of the university and Tennessee Baptists
7. Knowledge of basic productivity software—MS Word and Excel
8. Assist patrons with archival questions
9. Process items into the collection
10. Index items in the collection
11. Retrieve items for patrons
12. Notify supervisor of any problems or concerns that arise during shift
13. Perform other tasks as assigned
14. Must be able to lift 25 pounds
15. Able to work between 8 am and 4:00 pm
Required Qualifications
Currently enrolled in classes at Union University and/or registered for all classes and eligible for financial aid.
Currently enrolled in HIS 431 (Internship) at Union University.
Preferred Qualifications
Dependability and positive work attitude. Can work independently (after training) with little continual supervision. Good communication skills.
Training
The Archivist will work with the intern on a regular basis to provide projects to the intern as well as information related to the project.
