Art Teacher - Special Education - Youth In Transition School

What You’ll Do

  • Develop and implement lesson plans aligned with the approved curriculum.
  • Design art activities and projects that reflect the diverse needs and abilities of students.
  • Collaborate with clinical staff to provide art-based therapeutic activities when requested.
  • Maintain and organize art supplies to ensure a well-equipped classroom.
  • Support a positive and inclusive classroom environment.
  • Perform additional duties as needed to enhance the school environment.

Supervisory Responsibilities

  • Provide guidance and direction to Teaching Assistants and IEP aides in the classroom.

What You Bring

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college in Art Education or related field.
  • Certification: Eligible for or holds MSDE (Maryland State Department of Education) certification in Art Education.
  • Experience: Previous experience teaching art, preferably in a special education setting.
  • Skills:
    • Ability to adapt lessons for students with behavioral and learning challenges.
    • Strong communication and collaboration skills.
    • A passion for creativity, connection, and helping students succeed.

The salary range of $60,000-$70,000 is commensurate with experience and active MSDE certification.
