Behavior Support Specialist

Full-Time Behavior Support Specialist applications are now being accepted until filled.  

  • 180-day contract
  • Flexible with where you reside as we provide services to 11 member school districts: Ada-Borup-West, Climax-Shelly, East Grand Forks, Fertile-Beltrami, Fisher, Fosston, Red Lake County Central, Red Lake Falls, Stephen-Argyle Central, Warren-Alvarado-Oslo, and Win-E-Mac
  • Competitive Compensation based on degree and experience, SALARY RANGE: $42,046 – $87,946/annually based on the 2025/26 master contract salary schedule and prorated based on starting date.

Based on level of education and full years of licensed teaching experience.

POSITION SUMMARY: The Behavior Support Specialist II aids staff in meeting the needs of students with significant behavioral challenges. This role emphasizes the application of evidence-based strategies for effective behavior intervention tailored to individual student needs. The Behavior Support Specialist II will collaborate closely with the Behavior Support Specialist.

MAIN AREAS OF ACCOUNTABILITY:

  • Consultation and Implementation: Advise and support staff in applying effective behavior intervention techniques. Provide ongoing coaching following initial training sessions, whether conducted internally or by external vendors.
  • Assessment and Intervention: Conduct relevant assessments to develop customized behavior intervention plans.
  • Collaboration and Communication: Share assessment results and observational insights with all team members to ensure cohesive support strategies.
  • Monitoring and Evaluation: Track and assess the effectiveness of behavior support plans, making necessary adjustments to maintain fidelity and effectiveness.
  • Strategy Development: Create and promote the use of research-based behavior intervention methods throughout the cooperative.
  • Additional Duties: Perform various tasks as assigned, including:
    • Assisting special education teachers with the development of Individualized Education Programs (IEPs).
    • Coordinating professional development opportunities within classrooms, districts, and across the cooperative.
    • Reviewing services and programming for students with disabilities to ensure quality and compliance.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

Education and Experience: 

  • Degree in a behavioral science field such as school psychology, counseling, or social work.
  • Preference for candidates with a master's degree.
  • Experience in special education or a related field.
  • Proficiency in Positive Behavior Intervention Strategies, including the application of Restrictive Procedures.

Special Knowledge/Skills:  

  • Comprehensive knowledge of behavior analytics and behavior intervention strategies
  • Comprehensive knowledge of effective strategies to create change across multiple settings (for students and staff)
  • Considerable knowledge of crisis intervention and working with challenging behaviors
  • Communication skills to communicate verbally and in writing with parents, school staff, employers, and outside agencies
  • Able to gather data, analyze the data, and share the results
  • Able to maintain confidentiality and adhere to regulations outlined by FERPA
