The Department of Life Sciences at Carroll University invites applications for a tenure-track position inBiology at the Assistant Professor rank, beginning Fall 2026. This is a 9-month appointment with the opportunity for reappointment. This tenure track position is a retirement replacement and has the option to be teaching oriented (80% teaching / 20% service) or include research expectations (60% teaching / 20% service / 20% research).
Qualifications:
• Ph.D. in Biology, Ecology, Wildlife or related fields.
• Preference will be given to candidates with a documented record of excellence in teaching and the ability to engage under-represented students in the study of biology.
• If research expectations are included, candidates conducting research that can be adapted for a primarily undergraduate institution with evidence of scholarship resulting in publication are preferred.
Responsibilities:
• The successful candidate will be a broadly trained biologist with expertise and research experience in behavioral ecology, wildlife biology, or evolutionary biology.
• Primary teaching responsibilities will include behavioral ecology, introductory biology focused on diversity of life, ecology, evolution, and behavior, and additional upper-level biology elective courses in the candidate's area of expertise. Candidates with the ability to develop courses in processing “big data” are especially encouraged to apply.
• Preference will be given to candidates that can develop teaching and/or research connections to our field station Prairie Springs Environmental Education Center and/or local zoos and aquariums
• If the successful candidate opts for the position with research expectations, they will develop an active research program with undergraduates.
• Teaching opportunities in the University's general education curriculum, which includes courses with a cultural thread and general distribution courses, are possible.
• Additional responsibilities include advising, curriculum development, course coordination, possible grant writing, and other service to the Biology program and the University.
Rank and Salary
• Assistant Professor (80% teaching / 20% service OR 60% teaching / 20% scholarship / 20% service).
• This position is eligible for tenure on EITHER the teaching or research track.
• Salary is competitive and commensurate with qualifications.
The Department:
• The Biology Program has five faculty members and is housed within the Department of Life Sciences in the College of Arts and Sciences.
• The program supports approximately 150 undergraduate majors.
• Faculty in the department are active in conducting field and laboratory research, leading study abroad programs, and coordinating internships.
• The Department of Life Sciences has a full-time laboratory coordinator.Our laboratory teaching and research facilities were renovated in 2016.

• The Pioneer Core general education curriculum has a strong emphasis on developing intercultural awareness.
• Carroll offers graduate programs in several Health Science fields as well as in Business and Education.
• Carroll University is in suburban Waukesha, 16 miles west of Milwaukee and 60 miles east of Madison.
