Instruction and Classroom Support Tech 3
Whatcom Community College welcomes applications for the Instruction and Classroom Support Tech 3 (Biology/Chemistry) (Class Code 255O) position. This position coordinates instructional support activities in a basic or applied science teaching program and support services for a variety of courses; provides professional/technical support requiring knowledge of a scientific discipline.
Responsibilities
Duties include but are not limited to:
- Prepares labs and instructional material for use by instructors and students, primarily in a laboratory setting.
- Maintains an inventory of supplies used in the disciplines supported, including both general use supplies and lab-specific material.
- Performs the duties of Instruction & Classroom Support Technician 2, which includes basic lab support and lab maintenance.
- Coordinates the preparation of scientific materials and supplies for laboratory programs and field-oriented courses.
- Uses safety procedures in handling hazardous materials such as acids or bases, solvents; biohazardous materials such as bacterial waste, blood and/or urine waste.
- Assists with the collection and disposal of hazardous materials generated from laboratory and field courses.
- Inspects, tests, adjusts, and repairs scientific and laboratory support equipment.
- Creates lab schedules and coordinate scheduling of student employees.
- Directs student employees and facilitates work to prepare lab material, set up and take down labs, and clean and maintain classrooms and laboratory spaces.
- Develops, maintains and updates notes for labs and classroom demonstrations.
- May help teach laboratory portion of select classes.
- Manages time well and prioritizes tasks on a daily, weekly, and monthly basis.
- Performs related duties as required.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
- A bachelor's degree with a major in Biology or Chemistry.
- Two years of full-time experience as an Instruction & Classroom Support Technician 2 or equivalent.
OR
- Equivalent combination of education and experience.

- Experience in a community college/higher education work environment.
- Familiarity with plant care and or use of plants for research purposes.
- Basic understanding of statistical analysis.
- Ability to think creatively and work collaboratively with faculty and students in the development and implementation of CUREs (Course Based Undergraduate Research Experience).
- Earn the trust, respect, and confidence of coworkers and students through consistent honesty, forthrightness, and professionalism in all interactions.
- Keep supervisor and co-workers informed of need-to-know items; share complete and accurate information with others.

Salary:
- This is a full-time, classified, WFSE (Washington Federation of State Employees) represented position. Salary is Range 47, starting at Step A, $4,216.00 per month with periodic increments to $5,531.00 per month.
