Patient Care Associate - UI Heart and Vascular Center

The UI Heart and Vascular Center (HVC) is seeking a Patient Care Associate to contribute to the department's success by providing patient care services through coordination and support of operations. The Patient Care Associate under direct supervision, assists the members of the nursing team in provision of multiple types of patient care in in-patient and out-patient care areas. Their work requires familiarity with a wide variety of nursing procedures used in delivering patient care. This position’s main location will be our main campus clinic.

 

Position Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for facilitating the smooth flow of patients through the clinic through interaction with patients, families, and staff.
  • Assist in clinic with physical examination of patient and related treatments, including but not limited to allergies and immunizations and vital sign assessment (blood pressure, heart rate, temperature).
  • Manage internal and external medical records to ensure that accurate and complete data is available for patient appointments.
  • Perform routine laboratory tests such as electrocardiograms and x-ray work as needed.
  • Perform related clerical tasks including answering phones, scheduling appointments, and providing information to other departments.
  • Partner with nursing staff to ensure timely, thorough clinic work up and follow up including calls to patients (post procedure, normal test results, fasting, appointment reminders, etc.), preparation of patient education materials and packets, monitoring of fax machine and distribution of faxes, obtain outside records/labs.
  • Independently obtain and record vital signs including temperature, pulse, respiration, and blood pressure. 
  • Directly provides for patients' personal hygiene and comfort. 
  • Turns, positions, and ambulates patients. 
  • Transports patients, equipment, specimens, and supplies. 
  • Feeds patients, serves drinking water and nourishments, and records patients' intake. 
  • Assists patients with bedpans and urinals and records output. 
  • Participates in nursing care conferences; reports pertinent patient information and incidents to nurse in charge. 
  • Provides for patient comfort measures through social interactions.
  • Shares responsibility for preparation, proper use and care of equipment and supplies, and for neatness and cleanliness of unit. 
  • May assemble and maintain equipment and supplies in preparation for various diagnostic or treatment procedures performed by physicians or nurse.
  • Cleans areas per designated guidelines and standards demonstrating proper use of approved disinfectants, cleaning products, and care of the housekeeping equipment.
  • Stock and supply patient rooms and nursing units.
  • Perform other duties as assigned. 

 

Work Schedule:

20 hours per week within the hours of 8:00am - 5:00pm, Monday through Friday

Weekend hours will not be available
