Social Media Internship

Have you ever wanted to explore magazine writing and social media management? Get started with a social media internship at a vibrant publishing group. Here at Local, we publish eight community lifestyle magazines based in the Twin Cities, including Edina Magazine, Lake Minnetonka Magazine, Woodbury Magazine and more.
Responsibilities
- Write 4–6 stories per month across all digital channels, including Edina Magazine, Lake Minnetonka Magazine, Woodbury Magazine, Cities South Collection, Maple Grove Magazine, Plymouth Magazine, St. Croix Valley Magazine and White Bear Lake Magazine, with the opportunity to pitch your own stories.
- Work remotely 10–12 hours per week. (Must be based near Minneapolis/St. Paul.)
- Attend editorial meetings and occasional photoshoots (as logistics line up).
- Social media management, including but not limited to: opportunities to collaborate on reels and pitch ideas; scrolling Instagram feeds; interacting with accounts in the community through liking and commenting on posts and Instagram stories; commenting on posts from local accounts in accordance with our brand guidelines.
Requirements
- Basic journalism knowledge, including style, tone and format of articles and best practices for interviewing and fact-checking.
- A good comfort level with making phone calls, speaking on the phone and following up with sources for interviews.
- Familiarity with AP style.
- The ability to manage your time and tasks: working on multiple assignments at a time, prioritizing your tasks and juggling different types of assignments at once.
- The ability to work independently and ask questions when you need help.
- A commitment to meeting all deadlines.
- The ability to write clear and engaging stories.
- Familiarity with social media; knowledge of social media best practices and algorithms is a plus.
This internship offers a $1,000 stipend, provided at the completion of the program.
6-month term beginning in January and ending in June
