Medical Receptionist – Outpatient Clinic
Detroit Wayne Integrated Health Network is looking for a full-time Front Desk Receptionist with Medical Assistant experience to join its growing team of Direct Outpatient Services and function as an integral part of the Community Care Clinic staff. We value professional, warm and caring individuals who are willing to serve people from diverse social, demographic and clinical backgrounds. This dual Front Desk /Medical Assistant role encompasses clinical, billing and administrative tasks and duties that are usually performed by a Medical Assistant and Front Desk Receptionist respectively.
Qualifications
- Clinical and/or administrative experience in a medical or outpatient community mental health setting is preferred.
- Ability to utilize electronic health record software.
- Must always maintain patient confidentiality and HIPPA requirements.
- Excellent telephone etiquette and a welcoming demeanor to members of the clinic which includes the ability to answer multiple incoming telephone calls.
- The ability to handle multiple tasks that come from doctors, patients and coworkers.
- Strong communication skills with ability to interact clearly with patients of all backgrounds.
- Ability to work well in a team environment and be creative.
Responsibilities
The Front Desk/ Medical Assistant staff member is expected to maintain a professional and positive demeanor throughout all interactions with members and staff as well as a safe, secure, and healthy work environment by following and enforcing the clinic standards and procedures.
Specific Tasks
- Verify patient insurance coverage and any referrals needed at each visit.
- Complete check-in and check-out process of patients, including collecting any account balance or co-payments as needed.
- Schedule patient appointments and send reminder calls for upcoming appointments.
- Assist members and their family or legal representatives with their clinical needs by phone or electronic means.
- Collaborate closely with psychiatrists to coordinate patient care.
- Assists members and pharmacy with questions about medications and/or prescriptions.
- Coordinate ancillary services such as internal and external referrals, laboratory testing requests, acquisition of or sharing of medical records,
- Obtain and accurately enter vital signs into the Electronic Medical Record (EMR) as needed
- Assist with member clinical appointments, check-in and check-out.
- Prepare, submit and/or store necessary documentation for clinical services (E.g.: consent forms, ability to pay, releases of information, recipient rights, grievance forms if needed).
- Attend to phone calls and handle correspondence pertaining to daily clinical operations.
- Prepare and maintain the reception area clean and welcoming, with all necessary items (E.g. pens, forms, brochures).
- Ability to switch gears and multi-task is required.
- Must be able to manage the front desk with multiple lines and many patients at a time.
- Maintain a pleasant attitude at all times.
REQUIRED EDUCATION:
High school diploma or GED
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE:
At least one-year prior experience in medical scheduling, front desk operations, or medical administrative support in a fast-paced outpatient clinic
REQUIRED LICENSE(S):
• A valid State of Michigan Driver’s License with a safe and acceptable driving record.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
Work is performed in an office/clinic setting.
