La Casa de Don Pedro, Inc. (LCDP) was founded in 1972 by a group of local activists seeking to establish educational and charitable programs to meet the needs of Newark’s Puerto Rican community.
Named in honor of Don Pedro Albizu Campos, LCDP has since evolved to become the largest Latinx-led organization in the state of New Jersey, serving 50,000 Newark and Essex County residents annually under three central pillars: Early Childhood (Prenatal, Early Head Start, Head Start, and Pre-K); Healthy Homes (Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program, Weatherization, Lead Remediation/Abatement); and Community Empowerment (Women & Family Center, Immigration, Workforce Readiness, Youth Enrichment, Housing & Home Ownership Support, and Community Organizing). Who we Seek
La Casa de Don Pedro seeks an Administrative Assistant who will support the Program Director in assisting with the day-to-day administration and operations of the Community Empowerment’s El Barrio Wellness program. To be successful in this role, the Administrative Assistant should perform clerical duties, answer phones calls, maintain inventory of all supplies, and prepare supply or work orders when needed. The Administrative Assistant will serve as an integral member of the Community Empowerment – El Barrio Wellness team and will contribute to the overall efficiency of La Casa de Don Pedro by providing personalized and timely support.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Welcome clients and create a positive, calming first impression.
- Manage appointment scheduling and member communications.
- Handle phone calls, emails, and inquiries with care.
- Handle all supply orders and facility work orders.
- Process payments and maintain accurate records.
- Support team members with administrative tasks.
- Opens, sorts, and distributes incoming and outgoing correspondence.
- Keep our space organized and inviting.
- Assist with inventory and supply management.
- Other duties may be assigned to meet team’s needs.
Educational, Required Skills and Experience Requirements:
- Associate degree in a related field with one-year of administrative experience or two years administrative experience with a focus on healthcare or wellness.
- Experience working with community, children, and families.
- Strong organizational and multitasking skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and scheduling software.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and professionalism.
- Bilingual (English/Spanish) a requirement.
Physical Requirements:
- May require lifting up to 20 pounds (e.g., moving supplies).
- Extended periods of sitting.

Compensation, Schedule, and Other Information:
- Employment type: Full-Time
- FLSA status: Non-Exempt
- SOC code: 43-6010
- Reports to: Program Director – El Barrio Wellness
- Schedule: Monday – Friday; 9:00am – 5:00pm
- Compensation: $17.50 per hour
