TN-073 Substation Engineering Intern
Job Description:
TOR Engineering is looking for a Substation Engineering Intern to provide design services in support of transmission and distribution substation projects for both utility and commercial clients.
TOR Engineering is willing to train the right individual to assist Senior Engineers and Designers in the development of both physical and control design packages for electrical distribution and transmission substations. The Individual will be required to have an eye for detail, have a good work ethic, communicate well and be a team player.
Responsibilities Include:
• Learning to read a substation one line diagram and understanding the ANSI standard device numbers
• Learn to read and develop substation current, potential, relay protection and control schematics and wiring diagrams for the development of the electrical control construction prints
• Learn to read and develop substation foundation, conduit, grounding, plan and section views and associated details for development of the physical above and below ground construction prints.
• Learn to develop cable and conduit schedules, bill of material and SCADA point lists.
• Learn to perform voltage drop calculations, DC battery sizing, ground grid calculations, lighting protection studies, etc.
• Work directly with experienced engineers and designers
• Design projects which adhere to National Electric Safety Code and meet the standards of client and TOR
• Determine / refine client’s scopes in order to design projects using value engineering and experienced judgement
• Manage projects so that they adhere to budgeting and scheduling constraints
• Coordinate with drafters for scheduling and completion of the construction prints.
General Requirements:
• Working on obtaining a Bachelor of Science in Engineering (Electrical) from an accredited university
• 0-2 years or more experience working with electrical systems with the knowledge of basic electrical circuit theory. Knowledge of wiring, AC/DC panels, conduit and general construction principels is preferred.
• Familiarity with Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, AutoCAD, MicroStation
• Must be self-motivated and able to communicate and work well with existing engineering staff members.
