Location: Hybrid, based within commuting distance of Philadelphia

Hours & Pay: 8 hours/week at $18/hour, with potential for additional hours during busy periods.

Type: Contract Worker

Reports To: Founder, Sotomayor Productions

About Us:

Sotomayor Productions is a queer, Latinx-led film and media production company based in Philadelphia and Pittsburgh. We collaborate with grassroots organizations to tell stories that resist injustice, amplify cultural memory, and foster collective healing through documentary, narrative, and experimental forms.

 

Opportunity:

This position is ideal for a recent college graduate who wants to learn the ins and outs of independent film production, festival distribution, and impact campaigns. The role offers direct mentorship, opportunities for professional growth, and potential advancement to producer or impact producer roles. We recognize this is a small role but the aim is for this position to grow.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Film Festival
  • Updating film festival calendar
  • Managing festival deadlines
  • Submit films to festivals
  • Researching new festivals to submit to
  • Request waivers and discounts on submission fees
  • Communicate with festivals by providing files and film info
  • Request filmmaker honorarium, lodging and transportation
  • Navigating press for festivals
  • Marketing & Communications
  • Send emails updating film teams about upcoming screenings and events
  • Schedule social media posts using Later
  • Writing copy for social media posts
  • Create social media posts for festival and screening using Canva template
  • Outreach to student groups of social media
  • Design newsletters in Mailchimp
  • Maintain the Letterboxed account
  • Update website content (Squarespace)
  • Grants & Administration
  • Copy edit grant applications
  • Track reporting requirements and deadlines
  • Reviewing internship applications
  • Events & Production (as applicable)
  • Support shoots, screenings, and community events as available 
  • Provide creative feedback on films and media projects
  • Represent Sotomayor Productions at networking events and festivals
  • Other tasks as necessary might come up

 

Qualifications

  • Requires familiarity with social media tools, Canva, Airtable, Google Suite/Workspace, Later, MailChimp
  • Familiarity with FilmFreeway, Adobe Premiere Pro and Suite a plus
  • Proficiency in the Spanish language (written and spoken) a plus
  • Requires experience with event support and communications
  • Experience with media production a plus
  • Excellent time management and self-motivation
  • Strong communicator and outgoing personality who asks thoughtful questions and takes initiative, starting conversations
  • Interest in learning about social justice filmmaking and impact distribution
  • Reliable access to a vehicle, a plus
