Immigration Legal Assistant

The legal assistant will:
- Assist in the drafting of various immigration forms
- Assist in the preparation of packages for filing with various immigration agencies
- Interact with individuals regarding the status of their cases
- Maintain a list of active cases and current status
- Use the calendar function to note due dates and government appointments
- Assist in setting up appointments as needed
- Assist in light clerical work, such as preparation of overnight delivery envelopes, and some telephone duties
The ideal candidate has a curiosity to learn new things and is able to independently research needed information. Attention to details, especially in the preparation of application packages, is very important. Good writing skills and communication skills are also important. Ability to speak and understand Spanish is useful, but not essential.
During the initial six months, the candidate will receive training in office procedures and immigration law. As the candidate learns, the candidate will be expected to work more independently.
A candidate will be paid based on experience and abilities. Starting pay between $20.00 and $25.00 per hour. After six months, individual is eligible to participate in 401(k) retirement with an employer match of 3%. All Federal holidays are paid days off. Paid vacation as earned up to 2 weeks per year.
