GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES:

  • Performing intake and investigation of housing discrimination complaints in the areas of rental housing, real estate sales, mortgage lending, and homeowners insurance;
  • Advocating for people with disabilities to assist them in obtaining reasonable accommodations and/or modifications in housing, including drafting requests and conducting mediation/conciliation efforts;
  • Interviewing witnesses, gathering documentation, inspecting non-compliance issues, and performing other investigative tasks;
  • Performing case management and all functions related to such including consultations with attorneys and referrals to enforcement agencies;
  • Designing, implementing, and analyzing research or investigative projects to determine the level and extent of housing discrimination occurring in target areas;
  • Working with Executive Director to prepare cases for HUD enforcement actions, referrals to attorneys, or lawsuits;
  • Counseling housing consumers about their fair housing rights;
  • Assisting in the organization and presentation of the Council’s education and outreach activities and media publicity;
  • Preparing reports on fair housing activities for grant reporting or as needed;
  • Working with diverse individuals or groups who are alleged victims of discrimination.
  • And all other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in any social science or related field preferred.

QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Previous experience in social work, legal services, or civil rights preferred.
  • Computer proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Must be detailed oriented and able to follow procedures and protocols exactly.
  • Excellent organization and communication skills.
  • Reliable transportation.
