Kindergarten-Third Grade Special Education Teacher

Taft Early Learning Center in Uxbridge, Massachusetts is seeking a K-3 Special Education Inclusion Teacher to join our first-grade team, starting December 15, 2025. This is an excellent entry-level opportunity for new graduates with a Massachusetts initial license in Special Education (Moderate Disabilities, PreK-8 or 5-12).

As an inclusion teacher, you'll work collaboratively with general education teachers, specialists, and support staff to implement individualized education programs (IEPs) and provide specialized instruction in a supportive, team-based environment. You'll help students with moderate disabilities thrive in the elementary classroom through differentiated instruction, behavioral support, and inclusive practices.

Taft Elementary is a PreK-3rd grade Title 1 public school serving approximately 560 students, located just 15 miles from Worcester. We offer strong administrative support, collaborative colleagues, and a welcoming school community where new teachers can grow professionally. This full-time (1.0 FTE) position is perfect for December 2025 special education graduates ready to make an immediate impact in young learners' lives.

Required Qualifications: Bachelor's degree required (Master's preferred), Massachusetts Special Education licensure or Moderate Special Needs certification, experience working with diverse learners in inclusive settings.

Job Description:

  • Develop, implement, and assess Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) and behavior plans, including writing and reporting on student goals and progress.
  • Actively participate in Team meetings for eligibility, annual reviews, and re-evaluations.
  • Provide specialized instruction in primary content areas, developing appropriate modifications and accommodations.
  • Collaborate with grade-level educators, specialists, and support staff to ensure comprehensive student support.
  • Maintain regular communication with families/caregivers regarding student progress.
  • Conduct assessments and standardized testing to support the eligibility evaluation process.
  • Deliver direct instruction in both inclusive classroom settings and small group/individual settings as per IEPs.
  • Monitor student understanding of the general education curriculum and adjust instruction accordingly.
  • Consult with general education staff on learning styles, differentiated instruction, and appropriate teaching materials for diverse learners.
  • Align special education instruction with general education classroom expectations.
  • Ensure compliance with federal and state regulations in all aspects of the special education process.
  • Administer and interpret formal and informal educational assessments, preparing written reports as needed.
  • Analyze student work samples and data to monitor progress and identify skill gaps.
  • Supervise and collaborate with paraprofessionals and ABA Technicians.
  • Facilitate annual review and progress update Team meetings as required.

Additional Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree required; Master's degree preferred.
  • Massachusetts DESE Licensure in Moderate or Severe Special Needs required.
  • Wilson or Orton-Gillingham certification preferred but not required.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work flexibly and collaboratively with students, parents, and multidisciplinary teams.
  • Experience working with and/or teaching students with disabilities in inclusive educational settings.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of a range of disabilities and related needs.
  • Familiarity with Massachusetts Curriculum Standards and research-based assessments and interventions.
  • Strong commitment to inclusive pedagogy and high expectations for all students.
  • Proficiency in IEP development and implementation.
  • Ability to collect, analyze, and interpret student data to inform instruction.
  • Dedication to ongoing professional development in special education practices.

Physical Requirements (Must be able to):

  • Assist students as needed, which may involve lifting up to 25 pounds.
  • Stand and walk for extended periods throughout the school day.
  • Bend, twist, reach, and occasionally sit on the floor during instruction.
  • Respond quickly to students' needs and emergency situations.
  • Use technology tools required for instruction and classroom management.
