Senior Summer Camp Counselor
Steve’s Camp at Horizon Farms is looking for Senior Counselors who are excited to spend their summer leading, inspiring, and supporting young people in a nature-rich, joy-filled camp environment. This is more than a job — it’s an immersive role where you help shape culture, community, and growth for NYC teens.
About Steve’s Camp
Steve’s Camp offers a no-cost sleepaway experience for youth from systematically nature-deprived NYC communities. Our goal is to create a space where campers can explore the outdoors, build confidence, connect with each other, and return home with an expanded sense of possibility.
About the Role
Senior Counselors are the heart of camp culture — the ones who bring the energy, the care, and the sense of belonging that makes camp feel like home.
You will:
- Live in a cabin with 5–6 campers
- Lead them through their daily routines
- Supervise their safety, growth, and joy all day alongside a supportive team
- Work closely with Junior Counselors or CITs
- Model leadership, respect, and real community
This is a role for someone who loves working with kids, enjoys the outdoors, and thrives in a team environment where no two days are the same.
What You’ll Do
- Support the physical, social, and emotional well-being of campers
- Lead or co-lead camp activities: hikes, sports, cooking, gardening, arts, farm time, and more
- Build community within your cabin and across camp
- Help create a fun, inclusive, and respectful environment
- Stay engaged during full days — from wake-up to evening programs
- Mediate conflicts with empathy and support
- Participate in all-camp traditions, games, and special events
- Keep campers motivated, encouraged, and safe
- Communicate clearly and consistently with leadership staff
- Uphold camp values: Real Courage, Real Joy, Real Caring, Real Community
Who You Are
- High school graduate; college students strongly encouraged to apply
- Passionate about working with kids and teens
- Energetic, responsible, and ready to lead by example
- Someone who enjoys being outdoors — rain or shine
- Patient, flexible, and collaborative
- Youth leadership or camp experience is a plus, not required
- Aligns with mission-centered, justice-rooted youth work
- Comfortable living on-site in a communal setting
