Park Explorers Survival Club Rec Staff

About the Role:

The Park Explorers Survival Club Staff helps lead CARD’s newest outdoor education adventure—an immersive, hands-on weekly program for 3rd-5th graders based out of the Chico Creek Nature Center. This role supports and guides participants as they explore the wild spaces surrounding the Nature Center, uncover hidden trails, learn to identify local wildlife, and practice essential survival skills such as navigation and shelter building.

Staff create fun, safe, and engaging trail-based experiences through nature challenges, team games, and hands-on skill development. This position is all about sparking curiosity, nurturing confidence, and helping youth feel connected to the natural world. Ideal candidates are passionate about outdoor learning, comfortable leading youth in nature, and excited to build memorable experiences that inspire adventure and stewardship.

Who We’re Looking For:

We’re seeking applicants who love the outdoors, enjoy working with youth, and bring enthusiasm and leadership to nature-based learning. Ideal candidates have experience in at least one of the following: outdoor recreation, environmental education, youth programs, survival skills, or camp leadership.

Park Explorers Staff should feel confident guiding groups on trails, prioritizing safety, and adapting activities to meet the needs of diverse learners. Applicants should be positive role models who communicate clearly, stay calm under pressure, and help kids feel included, supported, and excited to explore nature.

Bonus points for knowledge in local wildlife, outdoor survival skills, Leave No Trace principles, navigation, or nature-based games.

Job Details:

  • Employment Dates: Wednesdays, 1/21-5/13, with potential for expansion based on additional programming opportunities, including summer work.
  • Schedule: The Park Explorers Survival Club will run on Wednesdays from approximately 4:00-7:30 p.m. (depending on the time of year). Hours will fluctuate based on the total number of registered participants and whether the program expands.
  • Work Locations: Chico Creek Nature Center and surrounding areas

Pay & Benefits:

Job Type: Seasonal

Pay: Lead I - $16.50 (on-site staff); Lead III - $19.50 (on-site director)

Employees will receive 40 hours of sick leave per year, accrued at 2.8 hours per pay period. All unused hours are rolled over on January 1st up to a cap of 80 hours.
