Family Engagement Specialist
The AmeriCorps member supporting family engagement for the City of Mesa will play a vital role in strengthening school–family connections and reducing chronic absenteeism through the BE KIND SCHOOL™ model.
School-Family Engagement & Outreach
- Assist with implementing the BE KIND SCHOOL–Family Engagement model by building relationships with caregivers and connecting families to local community resources.
- Help coordinate bilingual family workshops that promote mental health awareness, prevention, and safe decision-making.
- Support culturally responsive communication, including newsletters, family reminders, event invitations, and resource materials.
- Conduct outreach to families to help them understand the available supports.
Student & Family Connection Activities
- Support BKPP family-facing events, assemblies, and school activities that foster belonging and positive experiences.
- Help organize student-family engagement activities that reinforce positive childhood experiences and strengthen caregiver-student connections.
- Collect and document participation data for family events and engagement activities.
School Support & Coordination
- Serve as a liaison between BKPP staff, schools, and families by helping to coordinate schedules, event logistics, and correspondence.
- Support schools in creating safe, stable, and welcoming environments through kindness-centered and trauma-informed practices.
Recommended Qualifications/Experience
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, including confidence engaging diverse families.
- Ability to support events, organize information, and manage multiple tasks.
- Bilingual English/Spanish skills are a strong asset but not required.
