About SGGCFR:
The St. Gemma Galgani Center for Families and Religious is a Michigan-based nonprofit committed to “Empowering All Catholics Toward a Brighter Future.” It focuses on supporting Catholic families and religious (men and women in consecrated life) through content, prayer intentions, and community building. The website is (www.sggcfr.com) and we post on Facebook regularly. We are expanding our streaming content to other services shortly.
Position Summary:
We are seeking a motivated college intern with strong writing skills and an interest in faith-based / family-oriented communication. The intern will assist the communications team by generating, editing, and formatting content for our website, newsletter, blog (“Our Thoughts” section), social media, and print materials. You will also help with video production by brainstorming, outlining and delivering content. Through this role, the intern will gain hands-on experience in nonprofit communications, administration, writing skills, analytical skills, and digital content creation.
Key Responsibilities:
- Research, draft, and edit blog posts, devotionals, family-faith reflections, religious-education articles, and short-form website content.
- Adapt and format content for web publishing: inserting links, images, ensuring readability, applying SEO basics.
- Collaborate with staff to brainstorm content ideas aligned with SGGCFR’s mission (e.g., supporting Catholic families, enriching the lives of religious, promoting the spirituality of St. Gemma).
- Assist in updating the “Prayer Intentions” page and preparing periodic newsletters (drafting text, selecting images, coordinating with mailing platform).
- Monitor website and social-media analytics (basic metrics) and propose content adjustments based on audience engagement.
- Ensure all content is consistent with Catholic teaching, family-friendly, professionally written, and aligned with SGGCFR’s brand voice.
- Perform other communications tasks as assigned (e.g., proofreading, assisting with design assets, archiving content).
Qualifications & Skills:
- Currently enrolled in college / university — preferably in communications, journalism, English, theology, religious studies, family ministry, or related field.
- Excellent writing, editing, and proofreading skills; strong command of grammar, tone, clarity.
- Comfortable researching Catholic-family / religious-life topics; familiarity with the Catholic Church, saints, and family ministry is a plus.
- Basic web-publishing experience (CMS, WordPress etc.) and knowledge of online best practices preferred.
- Familiarity with social-media platforms and basic analytics is helpful.
- Ability to work independently, meet deadlines, and manage multiple assignments with guidance.
- Strong attention to detail; ability to adopt and maintain organization’s tone and style.
- A personal alignment with SGGCFR’s mission of supporting Catholic families and religious; ability to engage with faith-based content respectfully and thoughtfully.
